Dental Assistant Lead

Position Summary

The Dental Assistant Lead provides chair side dental assistance and office supportive services in the dental clinic. They are able to coordinate multiple activities simultaneously in order to ensure an efficient dental office operation. This position serves as a point of contact for new and existing Dental Assistants, and works very closely with the Dental Assistant Trainer and Dental Site Manager. This lead practices and models dental duties ethically and confidentially according to PCHC standards.

Key Accountabilities

  1. Obtain health histories for review by the dentist and document oral examinations in Dentrix.

  2. Receive and prepare patients for treatment including taking and incorporating digital x-rays into software program, seating, chair positioning, napkin placement, provide patient safety devices.

  3. Perform primary coronal polishing and fluoride application, and provide patient instructions pre- and post-operative.

  4. Follow all safety engineering practices, including use of lead aprons, PPE hazardous and infectious product handling, sharps handling, curing light exposure, and MSDS/OSHA knowledge and understanding.

  5. Maintain an inventory of dental and office supplies. Request supplies and equipment when necessary as directed by the Dental Coordinator to ensure that these items are stocked in sufficient quantity.

  6. Follow accepted dental procedures in the preparing and post-treatment cleanup of dental equipment and operatories, including hard surface disinfection.

  7. Cross-train to Patient Services duties, including but not limited to patient check in and appointment confirmation.

  8. Assistance in onboarding, training, and monitoring of new dental assistants, students, and volunteers at the site per the Dental Assistant manual and PCHC procedures and policies.

  9. Monitor department equipment and assure proper testing, cleaning and maintenance is completed in accordance to manufacturer instructions weekly, monthly and quarterly.

  10. Monitor Prior Authorizations

  11. Monitor supply inventory and prepare order list for Dental Site Manager

  12. Weekly Cassette Checks

  13. Communicate effectively with colleagues, within and outside of the Dental department, to promote patient-centered care and a timely billing cycle.

  14. Performs other duties as assigned
